Leo and Pam Kaercher, Shiloh, Ill., announce the birth of a daughter, Lannie Catherin Kaercher, born Dec. 25, 2002, at St. Elizabeth’s in Belleville, Ill. She has a sister, Peyton, 6. Grandparents are Cheryl Taylor, Lawrence; Bill Taylor, Jacksonville, Fla., and the late Mary Ledsworth.

Jim and Linda Russell, Baldwin, announce the birth of two new grandchildren.

Owen Paul Russell Bates was born Jan. 28, 2003, to Jared and Sarah Bates of Duluth, Minn. Owen has a brother, Isaac, 2. Paternal grandparents are Jim and Winona Skidmore, Erie, and the late Vern Bates. Great-grandparents are Hibbard and Marie Taul and Kathryn Russell, all of Baldwin.

Lauren Nicole Russell was born Feb. 4, 2003, to Bob and Lisa Russell of Wichita Falls, Texas. Lauren has a sister, Mackenzie, 4, and a brother, Riley, 2. Maternal grandparents are Barbara Laney, Hickory, N.C., and the late Floyd Laney. Great-grandparents are Hibbard and Marie Taul and Kathryn Russell, all of Baldwin.

Patrick and Kris Manning, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Amy Kristine Manning, born Feb. 11, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Amy has a brother, Spencer Michael, 3. Grandparents are Amon and Barbara Reeves, Russell; Jan Manning, Omaha, Neb., and the late James Manning.

Ryan and Brandy Brandt, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Elizabeth Lea Brandt, born Feb. 16, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are Dan and Connie Neuenswander, Baldwin; Bob and Diane Bruno, Chesterfield, Mo., and Bob and Shirley Brandt, Lawrence. Great-grandparents are Doris Sullivant, Lawrence, and Maxine Pollom, Ottawa.

Melinda and Wyatt Eubank, Twin Falls, Idaho, announce the birth of a son, Reiland Malachi Eubank, born Feb. 22, 2003, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Grandparents are Dorothy Ray, Creston, Iowa; John Lager, Maryville, Mo., and Steve and Kathi Eubank, Lawrence. Great-grandparents are Irene Reiland, Clarion, Iowa; Kathryn Eubank, Clinton, Ark.; and Lorraine Lager, Maryville, Mo.

Gabriel Lewis-O’Connor, a 2000 Lawrence High School graduate, appeared in three recent performances of the Lawrence University production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera “The Consul.” Lewis-O’Connor sang the role of Kofner. He is the son of James Lewis and Nancy O’Connor, Lawrence. He is a vocal performance major at the Appleton, Wis., university.

Tiffani Pearson, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2002 semester at Rockhurst University, Kansas City, Mo., by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

Sushila Shenoy, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2002 semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., by earning at least a 3.0 grade-point average. Shenoy, a 2001 Free State High School graduate, is the daughter of Catherine and Prakash Shenoy, Lawrence.

Joel Beard and Timothy Bradley, both of Lawrence, have been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2002 semester at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., by earning at least 3.75 grade-point average.

Dianna Ensminger, Lawrence, received a degree from Rockhurst University, Kansas City, Mo., in December.

Ellen Beard, Lawrence, participated in the Sterling Leadership Awards competition Feb. 15. During the competition, each student had the opportunity to compete for a full-tuition scholarship. The competition included writing an essay and participating in an interview with Sterling College students and faculty. The top competitors will receive full-tuition scholarships and be named Sterling Scholars. Beard is the daughter of Philip and Eileen Beard, Lawrence, and is a student at Free State High School.

Ivy Wagner, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2002 semester at Ripon College, Ripon, Wis., by earning at least a 3.4 grade-point average.

Mary Stuart, 76, of El Paso, Texas, recently received a Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award by the city of El Paso. Stuart, who was a longtime Lawrence resident, has worked for more than a decade helping students learn to speak English at private schools and El Paso Community College. She also teaches GED classes at LaTuna Low Security Prison. Stuart earned a bachelor’s degree in personnel administration, speech communication and human relations from Kansas University.

Roxanna Vangemeren, Lawrence, is participating in the Semester at Sea program, which is academically sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh. Semester at Sea is a global study-abroad program that takes students to nine countries in a 100-day semester. She is participating in a spring voyage that departed Jan. 21 from Nassau, Bahamas, and will return May 6 to Seattle. She is the daughter of Jane and Casey Vangemeren, Lawrence.

Christopher White, Lawrence, has been named to the fall 2002 Vice President for Academic Affairs List at Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo., by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average. He is the son of Mike and Ange White.

Christopher Bellinder, Lawrence, studied in Russia and Estonia in January 2003. He is a freshman at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. Bellinder, a 2002 graduate of Free State High School, is the son of David and Sonya Bellinder, Lawrence.
