Body of second U.S. student found

Search teams on Tuesday found the body of an American university student who vanished with his friend in a Puerto Rican jungle days ago.

Divers found the body of 21-year-old Colin Mike Ewers trapped by a boulder near the 30-foot waterfall on the flast-flowing Tanama River where his friend’s body was found a day earlier, said Delyris Aquino with Puerto Rico’s Emergency Management Agency.

Police said it appeared Ewers, of Bloomington, Minn., and Kristopher Reilly, 24, of Miami, had drowned but the exact cause of death had not been determined.

India, China agree to reopen border

India and China have agreed to take a key step toward warmer ties by reopening a section of their Himalayan border where the Asian giants fought a 1962 war, India’s foreign minister said Tuesday.

Relations between Beijing and New Delhi have improved in recent years as they focused on trade, downplaying border disputes and such divisive issues as China’s alliance with Pakistan, India’s adversary in three wars.

The agreement opening the border between Tibet and India’s Sikkim region came during a visit to Beijing by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that is billed as a landmark effort to build trade and diplomatic cooperation. It is the first visit to China by an Indian leader in a decade.

Abortion pills sealed aboard Dutch ship

Polish customs officials sealed a cargo of abortion pills aboard a Dutch ship to keep activists from illegally distributing them in this predominantly Roman Catholic country, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Inspectors found 45 pills of abortion-inducing Mifegyne and 180 pills of Cytotec, which enhances the other drug’s action, on board the Langenort, customs spokeswoman Jolanta Twardowska said. The ship docked Sunday in the Baltic port of Wladyslawowo.

Authorities sealed the pills during a search Monday because it is illegal to import, distribute or use them in Poland, Twardowska said.

Women on Waves, the Dutch abortion rights group, has said it plans to offer Polish women advice on contraceptives and medical services after taking them to the international waters out of reach of Poland’s laws.
