Thomas L. Burns

Services for Thomas L. Burns, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Burns died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Lawrence, the son of Thomas L. Sr. and Angelena (Barnes) Burns. He attended Lawrence public schools.

Mr. Burns worked as the yard foreman for Lawrence Paper Co. for 27 years. He also had farmed and worked at Bowersock Power Co. He was a member of Indian Hills Church of God. He wrote a book, “60 Years on the Kaw River,” in 1993.

He married Ozella E. Pearson on Sept. 28, 1939, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Thomas E., McLouth; three daughters, Carol Sue Taul and Jeannette Marie Hadley, both of Baldwin, and Patricia Ann Breithaupt, Lawrence; a sister, Annamarguerite Simmons, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
