Sentencing postponed in beating at motel

Sentencing for a 19-year-old Emporia woman involved in a group beating earlier this year at a North Lawrence motel has been postponed a month.

Sara M. Bruce was scheduled to be sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to battery, but her case was continued until July 21.

Bruce has admitted she kicked Josh Greemore, of Mayetta, during a beating and robbery at the Jayhawk Motel, 1003 N. Third St.

Four other people are charged in connection with the beating. A passer-by found Greemore early March 10, bound and stabbed, at Riverfront Park. Greemore survived the attack.

Meals available for homeless veterans

From now until June 22, homeless veterans will be given the opportunity to have a hot meal and relax at Kansas City Manual Career Center, 1215 E. Truman Road, Leavenworth.

The program, Heart of America Stand Down, is designed to give veterans who are homeless a chance to regain a more productive, satisfying lifestyle.
