4H Club News

The June 9 meeting of the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club was called to order by Weston Allen, junior president. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite theme park. Janelle Tefft and Jared Tefft lead the group in singing the “Little Green Frog.” Erin Ashcraft, secretary, read minutes of the last meeting. Weston Allen recognized Lisa Burd as a new club member.

Community leader Paula Aiken reminded members that achievement pin forms are due at the September meeting. She also went over the project forms for making entries to the fair.

The club signed up to work at a Douglas County Free Fair concession booth July 31. The club mini-fair will be July 20. The club voted to proceed with creating a club banner.

Members of the project teams for photography, plant sciences and clothing gave project talks.

The club recognized Paula Aiken for receiving the 4-H Alumni Award, which was presented June 5 at the 2003 Emerald Circle Scholarship and Awards Banquet in Manhattan.

The Lone Star 4-H Club met June 9. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite pizza topping. Members were reminded that pre-enrollment for fair projects is due June 30. The Fair Board is accepting nominations for the Friends of the Fair award.

The club learned that adult and teen volunteers are needed at the Kansas State Fair. Members are to notify the extension office by July 30 if interested in helping.

Members and families were asked to sign up to work at the Douglas County Free Fair concession stand. They also were asked to participate in the club tour and mini-fair, which will be July 13. Libby Queen and Leslie Queen gave a citizenship talk about the flag.

The next meeting will be July 13 in conjunction with the club tour and mini-fair. Donations for the Lawrence Humane Society will be collected.

The Meadowlark 4-H Club met June 10 with Samie Milligan presiding. Members answered roll call by telling their plans for the Fourth of July. Members discussed plans for the club’s mini-fair. The club voted on an idea for a banner.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. July 8 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. The club will have a mini-fair. The Morgison family will provide refreshments. Members will work on making tray favors and the banner before the meeting.
