Mangino commits to Johnson County

Lawrence High’s Tommy Mangino has signed a baseball letter of intent with Johnson County Community College.

Mangino, a catcher, led the Lions in batting average (.470), on-base percentage (.627), home runs (5) and RBIs (26) during the 2003 season.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Mangino is playing for the Lawrence Raiders this summer. He is the son of Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino.

JCCC is coached by Kent Shelley, a Lawrence High graduate who played baseball for the Jayhawks from 1980-82.

Glass falls in quarters

Klamath Falls, Ore. — Lawrence bowler Bob Glass advanced to the Round of 8 Wednesday at the PBA Senior Epicenter Classic but couldn’t prevail, losing the best-of-five match to Henry Gonzalez of Colorado Springs, Colo.
