Perry Lake rapist, killer up for parole

One of two men convicted 22 years ago for the rape and murder of a female hitchhiker at Perry Lake will soon be eligible for parole.

In December 1981, Gary Quirk, Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison on each of two convictions — one for second-degree murder and one for rape — to be served consecutively.

An accomplice, Leslie Ellifritz, Kansas City, Kan., was ordered to serve the same sentences for the same convictions.

They were arrested and charged after the body of Theresa Ingram Lynn, 24, was pulled from the Kansas River on June 21, 1981, in Wyandotte County.

Kansas City, Kan., police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s officers determined Lynn had been stabbed repeatedly and raped in Jefferson County after being picked up by Quirk and Ellifritz at Perry Lake. Her body was then dumped in the river.

Quirk and Ellifritz were initially charged with first-degree murder, rape and aggravated sodomy. In November 1981 they pleaded guilty to the reduced charges.
