Calvary Temple Assembly of God

The congregation of Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace, will honor fathers during Sunday worship services.

Each father in attendance will receive a gift as part of the church’s special celebration of Father’s Day.

First Baptist Church

The Rev. Sandra Walton will preach on “A Father’s Love” in honor of Father’s Day at both Sunday worship services at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

The chancel choir will sing Mark Hayes’ “And the Father Will Dance.”

The Generations Bell Choir will play “Antiphony” by Dale Wood.

Mark Robinson will provide special music, “My Father’s Hands,” in the 8:30 a.m. service. A special guest from the Gideons, Phil McWilliams, will also give a presentation.

First Christian Church

First Christian Church, 1000 Ky., is offering topical Sunday school classes for adults from 10:10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. weekly in the fellowship hall.

The Faith & Life Series subject for this week is “Faith & Mom & Dad,” presented by the Rev. Randy Beeman, Linda Beeman and a special guest.

Children may enroll now for SonHarvest County Fair Vacation Bible School, which will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 7-11 for children ages 4 through sixth grade.

First Church of the Nazarene

The community’s children are invited to attend Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 11:30 .m. Monday through Friday at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

KC Wolf will be a special guest on one of the days.

The Rev. Donald Dunn will continue his sermon series, “What Will I be in 2003?” at the 10:15 a.m. Sunday worship services.

First United Methodist Church

The community is welcome to join the congregation of First United Methodist Church for 30-minute worship services held at the church’s west campus on the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 40 and Kansas Highway 10.

The “Prairie Worship” services, which feature Scripture, music, devotions and time for personal reflection, are at 5:30 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays.

Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs.

Sermon title this weekend is “Our Fathers.”

Plymouth Congregational Church

The 11:15 a.m. Sunday “Gathering of Grace” service will be in the courtyard of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Enter the church through the south building door and go through the double doors facing the courtyard.

Participants on the senior high work trip return Monday from El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico, where they have spent the past week working in and learning about these two border towns.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

Remembering Church, a faith group whose purpose is to welcome returning Catholics, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Padre Pio Chapel in the north entrance of the church.

Picnic in the Park is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays across from Simon Parish Center. Parishioners are invited to bring a dish to share and a blanket or lawn chair. Drinks and table service are provided. Family and friends are welcome.

The Inquiry Group, for those interested in learning more about Catholicism or joining the church, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in Simon Parish Center.

The 22nd Annual Fiesta will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and June 21 on the church grounds. Admission is free.

Food will be served from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday. The Fiesta Dancers will perform at 7 p.m., followed by La Manana Band of Kansas City from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

“Glass Coffee Table,” a six-piece vocal jazz group from Lawrence, will lead gospel jazz favorites at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday worship service at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The Rev. Darrel Proffitt will preach the message “How to Meet God” at the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services. The children’s summer program starts off at all three services.

St. Margaret’s will be host Wednesday to the candidates for the Ninth Bishop of Kansas.

Registration forms for the Third Annual Heather’s Run, which will be June 21, are available at the church and Hy-Vee Food Stores.

Thursday’s regular healing service with Communion is at noon.

Trinity Episcopal Church

The Celebration of Trinity Sunday this weekend will include acolyte recognition and a picnic on the lawn after the 10:30 a.m. service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Fathers will also be honored for Father’s Day.

United Methodist Church

Representatives of American Indian tribes in Kansas took part in a reconciliation service with more than 650 United Methodists gathered June 4-7 at Baker University in Baldwin for the Kansas East Annual Conference.

Kansas Bishop Fritz Mutti began the service with an acknowledgment of sins on the part of lay people and clergy representing the conference’s 335 United Methodist churches.

Representatives of the Shawnee Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma and Wyandotte Nation of Kansas spoke and exchanged symbolic gifts with the bishop.

The Kansas East Annual Conference is a yearly meeting of clergy and laity from United Methodist churches comprising the eastern third of Kansas.

Major business this year was the election of delegates to the 2004 General Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Unity Church of Lawrence

The message at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane, will be “Men Speak about Fathers.”

Meditation will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Child care is available.

The church will present “A Bid for Unity” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St.

West Side

Presbyterian Church

Friends and neighbors are invited to participate in the “Son Harvest” Vacation Church School Monday through Friday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

Activities begin at 5:45 p.m. with a light supper, followed by stories, games, singing and crafts for children age 4 through sixth grade.

Elizabeth Gabel is director this year.

An old-fashioned ice cream social will be held Friday, where parents can view crafts the children made during the week and hear songs they’ve learned.

Vacation Bible School attendees will also present their songs at the 11 a.m. worship service June 22.
