Raiders split pair in Nebraska

? Lawrence’s Raiders split a pair of baseball games Friday on the first day of the American Legion College World Series Tournament.

Millard (Neb.) West defeated the Raiders, 4-3, in the opener. Chris Chavart limited Lawrence to two hits in the Raiders’ second loss of the season.

Matt Lane (0-1) took the loss against West, which was state runner-up during the high school season.

“We had opportunities to score, we just couldn’t get hits in a timely fashion,” Raiders’ coach Carl Brooks said. “Their pitcher just got stronger as game went on. The first game was difficult, but we didn’t play badly. In the second game we really turned it around and did some nice things.”

In the second game, Aaron Madill (3-0) pitched four innings of one-hit ball in a 9-0 victory against Omaha Northwest. The game ended after five innings. Madill struck out five and walked one.

Andrew Pyle and Blake Dickson each had two hits to lead Lawrence’s eight-hit attack. Derek Bailey added a triple.

The Raiders (11-2) play at Papillion, Neb., at 10 a.m. today at Papillion before meeting Creighton Prep at 5 p.m. tonight in Omaha.
