C. Gail Childers

Walsenburg, Colo. ? Services for C. Gail Childers, 69, Walsenburg, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Church of Walsenburg. Burial will be in La Veta Cemetery, La Veta, Colo.

Mrs. Childers died Thursday, June 12, 2003.

She was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Cecil and Essie Rote. She graduated in 1951 from Putnam City High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social welfare and her master’s degree in counseling.

Mrs. Childers joined the U.S. Navy on her 18th birthday and served as a photographer. She also spent many years volunteering to serve the elderly.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Childers, of the home; two sons, Kevin Mayo, Lawrence, Kan., and Gary Mayo, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a daughter, Kathy Sposato, Pueblo West, Colo.; a stepson, Bob Childers Jr., Tampa, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Becky Evett, Grant, Ala., and Desiree Brown, Brandon, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
