James Thomas Benefield

? Services for James Thomas Benefield, 27, Junction City, will be at 10 a.m. today at Highland Heights Christian Church, Topeka.

Mr. Benefield died Saturday, June 7, 2003.

He was born Oct. 15, 1975, in Vernon, Ala., the son of Tom and Sarah (Glasgow) Benefield. He graduated from Lamar County High School, Vernon. He attended Bevill State Community College, Hamilton, Ala.

Mr. Benefield enlisted in the Army on Sept. 18, 2000, and served in Kuwait from July 2001 to December 2001 as part of Operation Desert Spring. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Army Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Badge and Driver’s Badge.

He married Wendi Jo Freeman on March 22, 2003, in Vernon. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Christopher Scott, of the home; his mother, Ethelsville, Ala.; a sister, Beth Pless, Baldwyn, Miss.; and grandparents James and Elizabeth Glasgow, Caledonia, Miss., and Maudie Benefield, Steele, Ala.

The family suggests memorials to the James T. Benefield Fund, sent in care of Bank of America, 5325 S.W. 21st, Topeka, 66604.
