— Services for Evelyn Swartzman, 94, Beloit, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, Beloit. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Swartzman died Saturday, May 31, 2003, in Beloit.

She was born June 28, 1908, in Damar, the daughter of Napoleon and Olive (Saindon) Barland. She was a graduate of Brown-Mackie Business College.

Mrs. Swartzman owned and operated Swartzman Liquor Store, Beloit, until her retirement in 1995.

She married Paul Swartzman on Feb. 15, 1931, in Salina. He died earlier.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Swartzman, Beloit, and Steve Swartzman, Topeka; two daughters, Paula Swartzman and Avis Swartzman, Topeka; four brothers, Delmar Barland and Raymond Barland, Lawrence; Jerry Barland, California, and Leroy Barland, North Dakota; two sisters, Jeanette Swartzman, Topeka, and Victorine Vetter, Lawrence; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Harrison-Deneke Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the church.

The family suggests memorials to St. John's Education Fund or Solomon Valley Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 302 N. Hersey, Beloit, 67420.
