Area receives rainfall

June precipitation totals are off to a good start thanks to Monday’s rain showers. Today’s forecast calls for a continued chance of showers, in the late afternoon, with a high of 68 degrees.

Weapons stolen from mobile home

Police are investigating the theft of a cache of guns and samurai swords from an east Lawrence mobile home, according to a police report.

The burglary happened sometime between 9:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 2200 block of Harper Street. Items stolen included a .22-caliber pistol, a .22-caliber rifle, a 7 mm Spanish bolt-action rifle and two sets of reproduction samurai swords.

The items belonged to a 52-year-old man who lives at the residence. The items were valued at roughly $1,000, according to a report.

Center plans blood drive

The Community Blood Center is asking donors for assistance because of a shortage of type O blood.

The center, 1410 Kasold Drive, will have a blood drive from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash at Auto Plaza Car Wash, 2828 Four Wheel Drive, while supplies last.

Police arrest transient for indecent exposure

A Lawrence transient was arrested after he caused a stir Sunday afternoon in downtown Lawrence.

Police were called around 2:45 p.m. to an alley in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street, where they found the 45-year-old man naked. Police said he was riding in a wheelchair, yelling for people to call the police.

Officers arrested the man on charges of disorderly conduct and indecent exposure. He was released from jail Monday.
