William Ross Wilson

Services for William Ross Wilson, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Everest.

Mr. Wilson died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at his home.

He was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Horton, the son of George and Elizabeth (Ross) Wilson. He graduated from Horton High School in 1938 and from Kansas University in 1964 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He had lived in Lawrence since 1960.

Mr. Wilson joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 and retired as a commander in 1962. He served both in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for New York Life Insurance Co. for 10 years and as a supervisor for the city of Lawrence Water Department until he retired in 1979.

He was a member and ordained elder of First Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of the Jayhawk Chapter of the Retired Officers Assn., Kansas University Alumni Association and Jayhawk Kiwanis Club, and he was a lifetime member of Kiwanis Club International.

He married Irene Jacobson on Feb. 28, 1944, in Willis. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jane M. Robinson, Topeka; a son, William Ross II, Lawrence; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
