Ruth Ellen Ward

Memorial services for Ruth Ellen Ward, 92, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Presbyterian Manor Chapel. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She had Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Aug. 13, 1910, in Lawrence, the daughter of Robert M. and May S. (Titterington) Rose. She attended Lawrence public schools and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1929. She lived in Lawrence all her life.

Mrs. Ward retired from Kansas University in 1979 as a custodian. She was a member of Indian Hills Church of God, Women’s Christian Group and member and past president of Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She also participated in the choir and taught vacation Bible school.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn J. Sharkey and Rose Marie French, both of Lawrence; a daughter-in-law, Gloria M. Ward, Lawrence; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

A son, Russell Allen Ward, died Feb. 18, 1992.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to Basic Cancer Research or Alzheimer’s Research at KU Medical Center, sent in care of the funeral home.
