Shawnee ? The Lawrence Legends split a pair of softball games Wednesday at the USSSA World Series at the Johnson County Girls Athletic Assn. Complex.

Lawrence beat the Fort Collins (Colo.) Stars, 3-0, in its opener, despite notching just two hits. The Legends, who got a seven-inning, complete-game shutout from pitcher Katie Henderson, scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the win.

They lost their late game, 8-2, to Northern Illinois.

Lawrence will continue play at 11:30 a.m. today in the double-elimination tournament.
