Shirley Yvonne Fraser

Services for Shirley Yvonne Fraser, 71, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Fraser died Monday, July 28, 2003, at St. Francis Health Center, Topeka.

She was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Humboldt, the daughter of William Ross and Thelma (Ostrander) Cress. She graduated from Humboldt High School and attended Allen County Community College.

Mrs. Fraser operated several restaurants, as well as a catering business. Previously, she had been a secretary in the engineering department at Kansas University, and a teacher’s aide.

She was a member of Sweet Adelines, Brookdale Extension Homemakers Unit, Eastern Star, Jayhawk Camping Club and First Baptist Church, a volunteer for Kidney Foundation, and a stablemate for Shrine Mounted Patrol.

She married Richard E. “Slick” Fraser on Dec. 31, 1950, in Iola. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Doug Fraser, Lawrence; two daughters, Cynthia Wendt, Warsaw, Mo., and Teresa Krambeer, Lawrence; a brother, Larry Cress, Hillsboro; a sister, Phyllis Prentice, Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Michelle, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Shirley Fraser Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
