Show features spiritual work by Lawrence artist

The opening reception for a show featuring the work of Lawrence artist Ann Nunley is at 5 p.m. today at Unity Art Gallery, 900 Madeline Lane.

The show will be on display through Aug. 31.

Nunley’s watercolors and acrylics explore spiritual use of symbols, color and form.

She received a master of fine arts degree from Kansas University’s design department in 1963. After graduation she worked as a painter before moving into the field of transpersonal psychology. In 2000, she received a doctorate from Greenwich University in Energy Medicine and Transpersonal Psychology.

Tulsa museum to have major Remington exhibit

Tulsa, Okla. — The Gilcrease Museum will display the largest ever exhibition of the work of artist Frederic Remington (1861-1909) beginning Aug. 10.

Tulsa is the second stop for the exhibition, “Frederic Remington: The Color of Night,” which is on a national tour sponsored by the National Gallery of Art. The museum will also exhibit two additional shows of Remington’s work — “Cast of Characters: Frederic Remington’s Bronzes” and “The Published Remington” — continuing through Nov. 9.

Remington loved the outdoors, and the American West was his primary subject matter. Some of his most famous paintings, Western nightscapes, will be on display in the Gilcrease retrospective, as well as his highly regarded bronze work, including the piece “Bronco Buster.”
