Calvary Temple Assembly of God

A water baptism will follow the regular 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

All believers are welcome to stay and witness the baptisms.

Church & Synagogue Library Association

Austin and Ruth Turney will attend the national conference of the Church & Synagogue Library Association Monday-Wednesday at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wis.

Ruth Turney will present a workshop on “Benedictine Spirituality for Everyone.” It will focus on the many recent books that adapt St. Benedict’s ancient Rule for monastics to the needs of ordinary people today.

She is parish librarian at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

A class on Islam will be offered from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on five successive Mondays from Sept. 8 through Oct. 6 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.

Biagio Mazza, a professor at the Benedictine College Institute for Religious Studies in Atchison, will teach the course, “Islam: The Way of One God.”

The course is approved for state re-certification endorsement by the Kansas Department of Education for middle school and high school history and social studies.

There is a nominal fee to participate, and space is limited.

Lawrence Heights Christian Church

Lawrence Heights Christian Church, 2321 Peterson Road, will have vacation Bible school from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today through Friday for children age 4 through sixth grade.

The theme this year is “Son Harvest Country Fair,” and the school is open to the community’s children. Wal-Mart has donated two bicycles, which will be given away to the student who brings the most visitors.

Redeemer Lutheran Church

The social concerns committee of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave., is seeking donations to help the needy in the community to buy school supplies.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

The social concerns committee of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky., reminds parishioners of their Christmas season generosity and asks them to support a collection this weekend to outfit five children for the school year.

There is also a basket under the lighted Christmas tree inside the church to collect towels for the Lawrence Open Shelter.

The Fiesta Community will be host to an appreciation picnic for all Fiesta workers from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. There will be a special tribute to Art Diaz.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The children’s summer program continues at the 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. worship services Sunday at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Thursday’s regular healing service with Communion is at noon, followed by Finders Keepers, a small group that is open to new members.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will welcome the Rev. Gail Davis at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal before her ordination to the priesthood and serves as chaplain at St. Francis Academy in Atchison.

Victory Bible Church

Victory Bible Church, 1942 Mass., will hold vacation Bible school at 5:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Supper is included each day of the school.

This year’s theme is “Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventures (SCUBA). Registration starts at 5 p.m. Sunday.
