Sarah Elizabeth Charnes, Lawrence, has been named to the spring 2003 vice president for academic affairs list at Truman State University. She is a sophomore economics major and is involved with Sigma Kappa sorority and Pre-Law Club.

She is the daughter of John and Suzanne Charnes.

  • Sandra M. Biszantz, Lawrence, has been named to the spring 2003 president’s list at Truman State University. She is a senior psychology major and is involved with Delta Zeta, Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Phi Omega and Omicron Delta Kappa.

She is the daughter of Bob and Pat Biszantz.

  • Stephanie Blackwell Keller, Lawrence, graduated from Des Moines University, Des Moines, Iowa. Commencement was May 24. She is the daughter of Steve Blackwell and Debbie Landt.
  • Wichita State University has announced its spring 2003 dean’s honor roll.

James Balch, Baldwin; David Schonberg, Eudora; and Tara Klatt, Lawrence, made the list by earning a 3.5 or higher grade-point average.

  • Brett Myrick, Baldwin, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2003 semester at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Students named to the dean’s list must earn a grade-point average of at least 3.5.
  • Robert and Kris Overcash, Centerview, Mo., announce the birth of their twins, Kolton James Overcash and Kieghan Marie Overcash, July 6, 2003, at Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, Mo.

They have a brother, Kody, 3, and a sister, Reagan, 2.

Grandparents are Jerry and Kim Neis, Eudora, and Billy and Sandy Overcash, Pecos, Texas. Great-grandparents are Doris Schehrer and Katherine Neis, both of Eudora, and Joe and Mary Lou Corson, El Paso, Texas.

Their great-great-grandmother is Margarita Hernandez, El Paso, Texas.

  • Mahshid and Ashley Benjamin, Edmond, Okla., announce the birth of their daughter, Melayna Hannah Benjamin, May 28, 2003, in Edmond.

She has a brother, Armand Alan, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Sedi and Saeed Mosallaei, Overland Park. Paternal grandparents are Nora and Beju Benjamin, Lawrence.

  • Casey Wesp, 2003 Lawrence High School graduate, has accepted a $500 Award of Excellence in art to attend Fort Hays State University for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Wesp, son of Bob and Sandy Wesp, of Lawrence, plans to major in graphic design.

  • Hilarie and Joe Splichal, Highlands Ranch, Colo., announce the birth of their son, Samuel Louis Splichal, June 24, 2003, at Littleton, Colo., Hospital.

He has a sister, Jayne Marie, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Sam and Jacque Shipstead, Lawrence. Paternal grandmother is Donna Splichal, South Heart, N.D.

Great-grandparents are Dr. George and Ella Brahler, Lawrence, and Lee and Betty Shipstead, Manitou Springs, Colo.

Amy Pierce, McLouth, graduated summa cum laude. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pierce.

Jessica Lang, Overbrook, graduated cum laude. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lang.

Melissa Sue Tacke, of Lawrence, received a bachelor’s degree this spring from the State University of New York at Albany. More than 2,700 students participated in the 159th commencement ceremonies May 17-18.
