Poor choice

To the editor:

Let me get this straight. North Korea has a nuclear program of global concern and KU has resident experts on Korea. Africa has numerous crises, and KU and the Lawrence community have numerous experts on the continent as well as a range of cultural and historical aspects. The Middle East remains in turmoil and Lawrence and KU have numerous experts on both the region, its countries, its geo-politics and terrorism in general. Iran is on the verge of vast internal changes and again KU and Lawrence have abundant individuals and resources to follow this developing news.

Lawrence was the site of a just-completed international conference on global coastal changes. There are serious floods in eastern and southwestern China. European capital is flowing to the United States. Major geo-political regions are evolving in Iraq that will affect the entire Middle East, especially U.S. relations with Turkey and Iran. But, the Journal-World finds the “news” of a garage sale to be worthy of the key spot on its front page: “For sale: Ousted AD’s Jayhawk gear.”

Is this a great newspaper or what?

Robert McColl,
