Wayne H. Gilman

Memorial services for Wayne H. Gilman, 92, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ Memorial Garden in Phoenix.

Mr. Gilman died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Jan. 9, 1911, in Hinkle, Ill., the son of Clarence F. and Ora (Ashley) Gilman. He graduated from Mendota High School in Mendota, Ill., and received an engineering degree from Aurora College in Aurora, Ill. He moved to Overland Park in 1990 and to Lawrence in March 2003.

Mr. Gilman was a mechanical engineer for Motorola for more than 25 years before he retired. He had previously been employed by General Magnetic in the Chicago area. He was a member of United Church of Christ and was a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. While living in Phoenix, he was a member of Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ, where he volunteered.

He married Helen Couve on July 27, 1936, in Aurora, Ill. She died July 9, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Kent Wayne, Yorba Linda, Calif.; a daughter, Gloria G. Hinshaw, Baldwin; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to World Vision, P.O. Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063-9716.
