Earl F. Harris

Services for Earl F. Harris, 84, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Eudora City Cemetery.

Mr. Harris died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Lewis E. and Edna Mae (Prober) Harris.

Mr. Harris was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the U.S. Army. He was an officer with the Lawrence Police Department from 1954 until he retired March 31, 1984. He was a Nazarene by faith. He also was a member of Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence, Abdallah Temple of the Shrine of Kansas City, Kan., Christian Motorcycle Assn., and a life member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He married Kathryn L. Gabel on March 16, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Lynda L. Heikes, Lawrence; a brother, William E., Salina; a sister, Betty Ann McQuagge, Columbus, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
