National Guard troops assist at YMCA camp

A National Guard training project will make for a better summer camp experience for children at a Shawnee County YMCA.

Members of the Company A, 891st Engineer Battalion, based in Pittsburg, are working this week at the YMCA’s Camp Hammond.

As part of their annual training, they are grading roads and installing a concrete storm shelter.

Tenants rights seminar offered free of charge

Tenants rights and responsibilities will be the topic of a seminar July 17 in Topeka.

The seminar, organized by Housing & Credit Counseling Inc., will include discussion of fair housing issues, maintenance responsibilities, security deposits, right to enter and evictions. It runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Topeka Public Library, 1515 S.W. 10th St.

The workshop is free of charge, but reservations are requested by calling (800) 383-0217, ext. 309.
