Di’s former lover angers Brits

London — Princess Diana’s former lover, despised in Britain for revealing intimate details of their affair, has stirred up more revulsion — and fascination — by boasting the princess was good in bed and allowing excerpts from her private letters to be read on a television documentary.

James Hewitt, long nicknamed the “Desert Rat,” was followed by a Channel 4 television crew on a trip to the United States this year as he tried to sell the letters Diana wrote to him when he served as a tank commander in the 1991 Gulf War.

In the documentary, “James Hewitt: Confessions of a Cad,” the paunchy, 45-year-old ex-army major listens as his lawyer reads extracts of the letters.

In one, Diana writes: “Boy, oh boy, does the Earth shake when I get a letter from my desert friend, screams of delight, tears, you name it. Demented female on the loose, that’s for sure.”

Hewitt also makes crude comments about Diana and his success with other women in the documentary, to be broadcast July 24 in Britain.

Jolie finds new inspirations

New York — Angelina Jolie says being a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations has changed her life.

“I used to lie there at night and wonder what it was that I needed to do,” she tells Cosmopolitan magazine in its August issue. “That’s how I stumbled on going to Washington and learning about the U.N. and traveling around the world. It completely changed me.”

Jolie, 28, who stars in the upcoming “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life,” says her 2-year-old son, Maddox, is the most important thing in her life. She adopted Maddox from Cambodia last year as her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton was collapsing. The couple divorced in May.

“Before Maddox, when things would go bad, I had a tendency to be depressed or self-destructive or lost, and I can’t afford to be any of that now,” the Oscar-winning actress tells the magazine. “He has given me strength. I’ve never known this kind of relationship or love before.”
