Pretenders singer lends voice to PETA protest of KFC

Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders gave her vocal chords a workout Wednesday, joining animal-rights advocates in a loud protest outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in central Paris, ABC News reported.

The rock star and a dozen others, including leaders of the animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, were briefly detained by police after blocking traffic on a main boulevard and smearing red paint across the restaurant’s window to symbolize the blood of dead chickens.

“The protest won’t end here,” said Hynde, who was scheduled to perform Friday in a pop music festival in western France.

The activists were protesting what they called inhumane methods used to kill the chickens used by the fast-food chain.

Bring it on, Beckham

Barcelona, Spain — Spain’s synchronized swimming team just might get David Beckham’s attention.

First, the 10 women posed naked for the Spanish magazine Interviu. The relatively tame photograph — picked up by newspapers across Spain — shows the 10 huddled together next to a pool. The headline reads: “Beckham couldn’t last two minutes with us.”

Team captain Gemma Mengual contends the women train with an intensity that would embarrass soccer stars such as Real Madrid’s recently signed Beckham.

“Synchronized swimming is, with triathlon, the toughest sport there is,” Mengual said. “Because of this, Beckham or any other soccer player wouldn’t last two minutes doing our workouts.”

The 28-year-old midfielder, who’s as famous for his fashion sense as his athletic skills, transferred to Real Madrid for $40 million after 13 years with Manchester United. His wife, Victoria, was formerly Posh Spice of the Spice Girls pop group.

Don’t forget the ice pick

Los Angeles — Sharon Stone will appear on three episodes of the ABC legal drama “The Practice” this fall.

Series creator David Kelley wouldn’t discuss the character the 45-year-old actress will play. “That will be a part of our plot development that we’ll want to keep for a surprise for the audience,” Kelley told the Television Critics Assn.

But Kelley said there was a possibility Stone would stick around for more.

Stone, best known for her role in 1992’s “Basic Instinct,” was nominated for a best-actress Oscar for her work in “Casino.”
