Another scorcher expected

Matt Jacobs, 6News meteorologist, had a one-word weather forecast for Wednesday afternoon.

“Hot.”

How hot?

“It should top out at 99 degrees. It should be partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies,” Jacobs said. “The heat index should be around 105.”

And that’s hot enough for those who have to be outside to take some precautions, he said.

For example, it’s better to wear light and baggy clothing, take lots of rest breaks and drink lots of water, he said.

“In general, try to do everything outdoors in the morning and in the evening and stay out of the hot part of the day,” he said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop down to 74, he said.

“There will be a shower passing by to our northeast, but it will not affect Lawrence. Skies will be partly cloudy,” he said.

Thursday’s forecast calls for even hotter temperatures, with the afternoon high reaching 103, with a heat index of 105.

“There won’t be as much humidity tomorrow, although it’s still going to be hot,” he said.

Thursday night’s temperature will drop down to 73.

Friday’s forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of a shower, with an afternoon high of 95.

The high temperatures are expected to cool off to the low 90s during the weekend, with a chance for showers on Sunday and Monday, he said.
