Eudora Golfer Runner-Up: Chase Chamberlin of Eudora finished second in the U-13 division at the Kansas Junior Amateur golf championship last week in Pittsburg. Chamberlin’s three-day score was 234.

  • Lawrence Lifter Second: Micah Clark of Lawrence lifted 55 kilograms in the snatch and 85 kg. in the clean and jerk to finish second in the 56 kg. weight class of the boys ages 14-16 National Junior Olympics weightlifting in late June in Vermont. Clark is a sophomore at Free State High.

  • Hummers Advance: Lawrence Hummers won two games at the state tournament to qualify for this weekend’s U-16 Class A softball regional in Hastings, Neb. Team members are Alyssa Golden, Erin Miller, Dacia Sprow, Chloe Hall, Ashley Wagner, Kelly Spence, Dequesne Sprow, Diane Riat, Marla Metsker, Liz Brandt and Mallory Ross.

  • Freedom Run Winners: Lawrence’s Dee Boeck and Brian Daldorph were age-group winners in last Friday’s Freedom Run in Lenexa. Lawrence’s Jay Beckman was runner-up in his age group. Also, Wally Browner of Tonganoxie won his age-group title.

  • Conroy JGC Champ: Randy Conroy shot a 2-under-par 70 and won last Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar by a stroke over Chad Roesler. Kent Beisner and Mike Grosdidier shared third, each with a 74. In gross, Steve Crawford, Tony Esparrago and Gene Shaughnessy tied for the low score with 67s. Also, Conroy won the club’s first-half grand prix with 66 points, one more than both Mike DuPree and Roesler.

  • Basketball Tryouts: Lawrence’s Agape Corp. Community All-Stars coed adult basketball team will be holding tryouts at 7 p.m. next Thursday at First Baptist Church, 14th and Kasold. For information, call 856-2478.
  • Wilson Misses Record: Dick Wilson of Lawrence won the over-70 age group in the Bjorklund Half-Marathon last month in Duluth, Minn. Wilson’s time of 1:32.23 would have been an American record for a 71-year-old runner, but the clocking was disallowed because of a slight tailwind.
  • LHS Girls Basketball Camp: Lawrence High girls basketball camp will be all next week. High schoolers will go from 8-11 a.m., junior highs from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and fourth through sixth graders from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Scholarships are available. For information, call Kristin Mallory at 842-3342.

  • Fall Slow-Pitch Deadline: Registration deadline for fall city adult slow-pitch leagues is next Wednesday. All fees and rosters must be submitted by 5 p.m. at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th. Late registrations will be accepted until the following Friday, if openings remain. For information, call 832-7922.

  • Nine-Ball Qualifiers: Two teams from Lawrence have qualified for the APA Nine-Ball National Team pool championships Aug. 15-18 in Las Vegas. One team is composed of Jake Dibben, Dominic Scrivo, Mike Robinson, Aaron Silber, Monica Dibben, David Veatch, Prasad Jayaraman and Ali Littlefield. On the other team are Scott James, Prashant Patel, David Terrell, Brad Fleming, Julie Standfield, David Swenson and Matthew Ridgway.
  • DCABA All-Stars Qualify: The 8-year-old All-Stars from Douglas County Amateur Baseball Assn. will travel to Haysville this weekend after qualifying for the State Coach-Pitch World Series. Team members are Matt Baker, Jacob Caldwell, Garrick Clapp, Drake Hofer, Rigby McClure, Dane McCullough, Jake Mosiman, Adam Rea, Stan Skwarlo, Cody Stanclift and Shane Willoughby. Coaches are Mike Willoughby, Darren McClure and Mike Stanclift.

  • Flames State-Bound: Eudora Flames U-12 girls softball team is headed for the Class C ASA State tournament July 18-20 in Wichita. Team members are Madison Dennis, Alex Mott, Abby Mott, Elizabeth Hoese, Jessica Bowman, Rachel Pyle, Samantha Martinez, Mariah Wimmer, Allison Hoover, Madison Mater, Callie Sanders, Kristen Becker and Miranda Cobell. Coaches are Junior Martinez and Mike Cobell.
