City fires manager

? Citing financial problems, the Galena City Commission has fired City Manager Jack Murray.

The commission voted 3-2 Monday night to fire Murray.

“It appears we are on the road to financial disaster as a city,” Commissioner Darrell Shoemaker said in a prepared statement.

Among Murray’s mistakes, he said, was a failure to include payments for a new fire truck in the budget.

Murray, who was manager for three years, had planned to retire next year. He had no comment.

City Clerk Debbie Kitch was appointed interim city manager.
