Theatre to offer encore presentations

The Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 N.H., will do three encore presentations of “Always…Patsy Cline,” July 11-13. The musical is a tribute to country-pop legend Patsy Cline, and was popular with audiences last fall at the theater.

The show contains such renowned Cline songs as “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “AnyTime,” and “Crazy.” The Bodacious Bobcats Band will provide musical accompaniment to the show.

Times for the shows are 8 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. July 13. The Saturday performance will include a fund-raiser for Lawrence Community Theatre. There will be a barbecue at 6:30 p.m. and a street dance with live music from Blue Grass Night will follow the Saturday show.

Performing arts group to present play

Baldwin — Heart of America Performing Arts will present “Over the River and Through the Woods” at 7:30 p.m. July 8-12 and at 3 p.m. July 13 in Rice Auditorium at Baker University.

The play about family, faith and food is a comedy-drama by Joe DiPietro.

In conjunction with the play, Heart of America Performing Arts will have youth and adult workshops on scenic and faux painting at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Large-scale paintings to be shown at Kemper

Kansas City, Mo. — The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art will open Friday its exhibition of large-scale paintings by artist Greg Rose. The exhibition, “Greg Rose: Paradise Redux,” is July 11-Oct. 5.

Rose will speak about his work at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the museum’s meeting room.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Kemper will also hold a series of workshops.

St. Joseph theater to have musical comedy

St. Joseph, Mo. — Robidoux Resident Theatre will present “Into The Woods,” the popular musical comedy by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and at 2 p.m. on July 13.

The musical is a lively, irreverent fantasy about fairy tales, with an undercurrent of community responsibility.

The show will be at Robidoux Resident Theatre in downtown St. Joseph, Mo. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors and students. For more information, call (816) 232-1778.
