Giddens leads team into Global Games finals

? Kansas University basketball signee J.R. Giddens scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace the Global Games Select team to a 94-87 victory over Yugoslavia on Thursday in a Global Games semifinal at Moody Coliseum.

Giddens, a 6-foot-5 native of Oklahoma City, hit seven of 15 shots in helping his team advance to tonight’s finals against Team USA, a squad that beat the Select team by 20 points Tuesday night.

Giddens scored 25 points in Monday’s win over Puerto Rico and 11 in Wednesday’s victory over Brazil. He had six points in the loss to the USA on Tuesday.

Marvin Williams, a 6-8, 220-pound high school senior-to-be from Bremerton, Wash., on Friday verbally committed to UNC over Arizona and Washington.

Rivals.com ranks Williams No. 10 on the top 150 prospects list and the fifth-best player at his position.

Marvin Williams had Kansas on his list last season when Roy Williams was head coach of the Jayhawks.
