Courtenay DeHoff, Tonganoxie, will exhibit Angus cattle at the 2003 National Junior Angus Show July 13-19 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky. DeHoff is a junior member of the American Angus Assn.

  • Lindsay Helmick, Free State High School student, and Leslie Rhoton, Lawrence High School student, are attending the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar this week at Wichita State University. The seminar brings together a select group of high school sophomores to interact with distinguished leaders in business, government, education, entertainment and the professions to discuss present and future issues. The goal is to provide them with a stimulating forum for learning about the American incentive system and the democratic process, while broadening their understanding of their leadership potential and quest for self-development.
  • Baker University has given 130 Presidential Academic Scholarships to incoming freshmen and transfer students. The scholarships range from $4,000 to $6,000 per academic year and are renewed when specific grade-point averages are maintained. Area recipients are James Barr, Eudora; Jacob Landis, Grantville; Cori Hermann and Jayme Lisher, Lawrence; Renay Carter, Overbrook; Paul Foltz, Perry; Amanda Brake and Scott Driver, Pomona; and Kristen Hale, Wellsville.
  • Fort Hays State University announced Lawrence residents who have accepted scholarships to attend the university. Rhiannon Beeson, Molly Bretthauer, Jennifer Engle, Heidi Kennedy, Eric Spray, Courtney Taulbert and Kellyn Young, each accepted a $500 Award of Excellence in art. Rychel Johnson accepted an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Michael Junod accepted a $500 Award of Excellence in health and human performance and a $400 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Kevin Slocum accepted a $400 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award.
