Baker men, women swept by MANU

Baldwin — MidAmerica Nazarene University won both games of a men-women basketball doubleheader Thursday night at Baker University.

The Wildcats’ Pedro Dos Santos scored 18 points with seven rebounds and three blocks in a 70-55 setback. Scott Johnson added seven points and four assists for BU, which dropped to 12-11 overall, 5-6 Heart of America Conference.

Gayla Brown led the Baker women with 13 points and had eight rebounds in a 68-61 loss. Tasha Gentry scored 12 points for the Wildcats (14-10, 8-5).

Ottawa men prevail, women fall to Sterling

Ottawa — Ottawa University’s men’s basketball team needed double overtime to clip Sterling College, 66-65 on Thursday night.

The Braves’ Ricky Bulmer had 18 points and nine rebounds, and Tony Porter added 17 points and 14 boards. PJ Siggal scored 14 points for OU.

The Warriors pounded the Ottawa women, 78-60. Amber Lannan scored 15 points with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Angela Harger netted 15 points off the bench, including 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range.

Baldwin’s Mason honored by Old Spice

Baldwin — Baldwin High junior Micah Mason was named a Red Zone Player of the Year, one of seven Kansas football players to receive the award by Old Spice.

Mason, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound running back/linebacker, is one of 360 players in the nation to receive the award.

He started all 10 games for the Bulldogs (6-4) this season, and rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the second straight year.
