Artest in trouble again after run-in with Riley

Indianapolis — The NBA said Tuesday that it was investigating Ron Artest’s actions in Monday night’s game at Miami. Artest had a run-in with Heat coach Pat Riley and made an obscene gesture toward the Miami crowd.

Already this season, the Indiana forward has been fined $10,000 for shoving Dallas’ Raja Bell and has served a three-game suspension for smashing a $100,000 TV camera in New York.

“That was bad on my part,” Artest admitted after the Pacers’ 102-95 win. “I shouldn’t have done that. I should know better.”

Artest, who came to Indiana as part of a seven-player trade with Chicago last year, is the Pacers’ second-leading scorer and is fourth in the league in steals.

Davis to miss six weeks

New Orleans — Hornets guard Baron Davis is expected to be sidelined up to six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee Tuesday. Davis was injured in a game against Portland on Friday when he fell awkwardly on his knee after driving to the basket. The fourth-year pro never missed a game before this season.

Strickland sidelined

Minneapolis — Timberwolves point guard Rod Strickland will miss up to a month with a strained left groin. Strickland had an MRI exam Tuesday that confirmed the injury. He was hurt in the second quarter of Monday night’s 106-95 victory over San Antonio and didn’t return to the game. Troy Hudson, a starter for 37 games until he hurt his ankle, will return to the lineup.
