Writer to speak at African-American History Month

Kevin Powell, a journalist, poet and cultural critic, will be the guest of Kansas University’s Black Student Union next week as part of African-American History month activities.

Powell will speak about hip-hop culture on college campus in his lecture, which begins at 7 p.m. Monday at Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union on KU’s campus. Powell will also sign his books at 8:30 p.m. in the Kansas Union lobby.

Powell’s articles, essays and reviews have appeared in Newsweek, Code, Essence, the Washington Post and in Vibe, where he worked as a senior writer for several years.

The following is a schedule of other activities planned for African-American History Month:
