KU seniors in design mount group show

Graduating seniors from the Kansas University design department will show their work during a group exhibition from Feb. 2-Feb. 7 in the Art and Design Gallery.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The students are completing work in the following areas: ceramics, textiles, jewelry, metalsmithing and visual arts education. This is the first public exhibition for this group.

The gallery is on the third floor of the Art and Design Building, on the corner of 15th Street and Naismith Drive. Hours are 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday; 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Wednesday; 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday; and 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday. The gallery is closed on Saturdays and holidays.

Korean visiting artists to perform recital

Cellist Dong-Oo Lee and pianist Yoonbok Oh, both from Korea, will play a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Murphy Hall Room 130.

After 17 years as principal solo cellist of Korea’s National Symphony Orchestra, Lee was appointed professor of cello at the University of Ulsan, College of Music in 2000. He has received several of America’s most prestigious fellowships and awards, including the 1977 Tanglewood Fellowship from the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Oh began playing at age 6 in her native Seoul, South Korea, and has been heard in recital on radio stations in Baltimore and New York. She has been professor of piano since 1998 and is currently chairwoman of the piano department at the University of Ulsan, College of Music.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Hulsey prints to be sold at Fields Gallery benefit

Fields Gallery, 712 Mass., will offer giclee prints by Lawrence artist John Hulsey at its First Friday Gallery Walk art benefit for the Wakarusa chapter of the Sierra Club on Feb. 7.

Giclee prints are high-quality images created using the giclee process, which reproduces extremely faithful prints from original paintings in small quantities at a time. Each of Hulsey’s print editions is limited to 300.

Hulsey studied painting at the Kansas City Art Institute and at Kansas University. He paints landscapes in watercolor and oil.

During the benefit, 20 percent of the gallery’s sales will go to the Sierra Club.
