Detectives investigate gun incident at Teller’s

An incident earlier this month involving a downtown restaurant employee being held at gunpoint has been under investigation by Lawrence Police.

No one was been arrested, but information is being sent to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review, police said when making the case public Friday.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Jan. 10, detectives went to Teller’s, 746 Mass., to investigate a report of an employee overcharging customers on their food bills, Lt. David Cobb said.

Detectives found the suspect being held at gunpoint in a basement room by another man who worked there or was associated with the restaurant, Cobb said.

A .9 millimeter handgun was confiscated by the detectives.

Dist. Atty. Christine Kenney said her office was waiting for all police reports on the incident before deciding whether to file charges.

Chain-reaction wrecks tie up Sixth Street

Inattention on the part of some drivers was blamed for a chain-reaction series of rear-end accidents Friday morning on Sixth Street just west of Tennessee Street, Lawrence Police said.

One ambulance from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical was sent to the scene, but no one was injured. The accidents occurred about 8 a.m. and snarled rush hour traffic in the westbound lanes of Sixth Street, police said. Five vehicles were involved.

Police cited two drivers for careless driving, but no information about them was available Friday afternoon.
