Scanlan

John and Helen Scanlan, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 22 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with a blessing from the Rev. Charles Polifka. A reception followed at the Lawrence Country Club.

John Scanlan and Helen Hebor were married Nov. 15, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Roselle, N.J.

John attended Kansas University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1950. He owns Kansas Construction Co. Helen attended business college. She worked as a secretary for Finnegan, Flanigan and Feldman in Elizabeth, N.J. She also was a homemaker.

The couple’s children are John and Amy Scanlan, California, Md.; Michael Scanlan, Leawood; and William and Liz Scanlan, Bakersfield, Calif. The couple also have four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
