Judge increases bond in child abuse death

A judge has changed his earlier decision and increased bond for the Kansas City, Kan., church leaders charged with killing their adopted son.

Bond for Neil Edgar Sr. and his wife, Christy Edgar, was originally set at $2 million each. Johnson County District Judge John Bennett last week lowered bonds to $200,000.

On Tuesday, Bennet increased the bonds to $1 million at the urging of Dist. Atty. Paul Morrison.

The Edgars and baby sitter Chasity Boyd are charged with first-degree felony murder in the Dec. 30 death of Brian Edgar.

Boyd has not asked for a bond reduction, and hers remains at $2 million.

All remained in the Johnson County jail on Wednesday.

Father-in-law convicted in Wal-Mart shooting

A jury convicted a Great Bend man of first-degree murder Wednesday for shooting his son-in-law to death at an Augusta Wal-Mart last year.

Bobby Bruce White was charged in the March death of Aaron Ruboyianes, who was shot three times as he worked in the electronics department. White was arrested moments after Ruboyianes, 24, was shot.

Police have said White was upset by a judge’s decision to terminate his guardianship of his grandson.

Two critically injured in house explosion

A man who rescued his daughter and mother-in-law after the house they were in exploded was released from the hospital Wednesday.

The two women, one 72 and one 23, were critically injured in the explosion Tuesday in Hunnewell in Sumner County.

The two injured women were flown to Wichita, where they were in critical condition at Via Christi-St. Francis.

Officials said they thought a newly installed propane gas line had been accidentally turned on.
