United Way raises $1.425 million

United Way of Douglas County fell short of its fund-raising goal in 2002, but the $1.425 million raised still set a single-year record for the organization.

United Way officials announced Tuesday morning that last year’s campaign was $35,000 — or 2.6 percent — short of its $1.46 million goal. The 2001 campaign raised $1.396 million.

David Ambler, who co-chaired the campaign with his wife, Mary Kate, said the campaign was a success in light of state economic problems and fund-raising difficulties across the country.

The money goes to 28 local agencies. Connie Sollars, board president, said the campaign will allow United Way to avoid cutting allocations to the agencies.
