The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met Jan. 8 for its weekly game. Eleven pairs competed in a stratified game using a Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Bob Anderson and Bill Hamilton claimed first place. Mike Montgomery and Rhonda Montgomery finished second. Hellen Huffman and Bob Huffman placed third in A and first in B. Dick Moore and Bobbi McCorkle took fourth place in A and second place in B. Frances Vogel and Dorothy Arth placed fifth in A. Ann Thompson and Betty Spalsbury finished first in C.

Competing North-South, Virginia Seaver and Patt Radford claimed first place. Wanda Durbin and Julia Brooks placed second, followed by Phyllis Brownlee and Jean Otney. Frances Vogel and Erna Holmes placed fourth. Suzanne Wassmer and Shirley Vaughn finished first in B. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed first in C.

Playing East West, Jim Gunn and Harry Shaffer placed first, followed by Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman. Anna De Thomas and James Mullin took third place. Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks finished first in B and C. Larry Smith and Kendall Wolf took second in B and C.

Competing East-West, Terry Tolar and Vince Russo claimed first place in A and B. Harry Shaffer and Jiambo Zhang placed second in A and B. Kent McCullough and Larry Bodle finished third in A, followed by Jeff Nash and James Mullin. Mike Montgomery and Bill Hamilton took fifth place in A, third place in B and first place in C. Don Brennaman and Olivier Urruty placed sixth in A, fourth in B and second in C. Chris Lane and Shirley Reese took seventh place in A and fifth place in B.

Playing East-West, Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman placed first in A, followed by Jerry Sloan and Julia Brooks. Ed Howard and John Fittell took third place. Dave Rhea and Christie Thomas finished fourth. Mona Bell and Jean Otney took fifth in A and first in B. Bobbi McCorkle and Mary Beth Treece finished first in C.

Pilot Club of Lawrence had its monthly meeting Monday at the Lawrence Public Library. Anthony Buller and Jake Schmitz of the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence were guests. The club presented a check for $1,500 to the Boys and Girls Club. The next meeting will be Feb. 10 at Vermont Towers.
