Sue Morgan files for re-election to school board

Sue Morgan on Friday became the third incumbent Lawrence school board member to file for re-election.

Voters go to the polls April 1 to select four board members and consider the board’s proposed $59 million bond issue for school construction and renovation.

Morgan, the last incumbent to declare political intentions, filed necessary paperwork at the Douglas County Courthouse this morning.

She served as board president in 2001-2002, leading the board through the painful process of adopting $3.1 million in student fee increases and program cuts.

Morgan is business administrator at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.

So far, the other candidates are incumbents Mary Loveland and Scott Morgan and newcomers Cindy Yulich, Ron Powell and Samuel Gould.

Since filing Monday, Gould has said he would withdraw before the noon Tuesday filing deadline.

Incumbent board member Jack Davidson has said he wouldn’t seek another term.
