Tippin’s seeks Chapter 11 bankruptcy

? Tippin’s Restaurants Inc., a restaurant chain based in this Kansas City suburb, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Gambucci Inc., a Tippin’s subsidiary that operates one restaurant in Olathe, joined the bankruptcy action, which was filed Monday.

The filings came shortly after Tippin’s closed nine restaurants in Kansas City, St. Louis and Texas. The company still operates restaurants in Overland Park, Lenexa, Prairie Village, Independence, Mo., and Tulsa, Okla., a pie plant and a food plant. The company employs 500.

Ron Weiss, one of the company’s bankruptcy attorneys, said no additional restaurant closings were planned.
