Jaguars courting Ravens executive

Jacksonville, Fla. — Jacksonville will interview Baltimore’s director of college scouting for its general manager’s position, according to a team source. Phil Savage will interview with owner Wayne Weaver on Saturday.

Savage will be the second member of the Ravens’ staff to be interviewed in Jacksonville’s attempt to find someone to manage personnel. Earlier this week, Weaver interviewed Baltimore’s director of pro personnel, James Harris.

Steelers linebacker misses practice again

Pittsburgh — Steelers linebacker Kendrell Bell sat out practice again Thursday because of a left ankle injury.

Bell is listed as questionable for Saturday’s divisional playoff game at Tennessee. He has sprained the ankle four times since training camp, reinjuring it again Sunday during Pittsburgh’s victory over Cleveland.

Bengals interview Coughlin second time

Cincinnati — Former Jacksonville coach Tom Coughlin had a second interview with Cincinnati on Thursday.

Coughlin is a leading candidate to replace Dick LeBeau, who was fired Dec. 30. He had an eight-hour meeting with Bengals executives on Jan. 3 in Cincinnati.

Coughlin was fired last week after eight seasons in Jacksonville. He took the Jaguars to two AFC title games in their first five seasons.

Niners corner ailing

Santa Clara, Calif. — Jason Webster missed another practice Thursday because of a sprained ankle, though San Francisco’s starting cornerback still hopes to play Sunday at Tampa. Webster, a third-year pro, missed the 49ers’ 39-38 victory over the New York Giants last Sunday after spraining his left ankle in the regular season finale. He hasn’t practiced since, and is questionable for Sunday’s game.

NFL fines three players after playoff scuffle

Santa Clara, Calif. — San Francisco’s Terrell Owens and New York Giants Shaun Williams and Omar Stoutmire were fined Thursday for their actions during the final minute of their teams’ controversial playoff game last Sunday.

Owens was fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Williams, a safety, also was fined $10,000 for unnecessary roughness. Stoutmire, also a safety, got a $7,500 fine for unnecessary roughness, league spokesman Michael Signora said.

Warner passes physical following difficult year

St. Louis — St. Louis quarterback Kurt Warner on Thursday passed an end-of-season physical suggested by the team, which had suspected rotator cuff damage in his shoulder.

Warner missed half of the season because of a broken pinkie and a broken bone in his hand, finishing the year on injured reserve. He had only three touchdown passes and 11 interceptions this year and the Rams were 0-6 in his starts.

Warner also missed time because of a broken pinkie in 2000.

San Diego magistrate won’t block Super Bowl

San Diego — A federal magistrate turned down a disabled activist’s request Thursday to block the Super Bowl.

Beverly Walker had sought a federal court order to prevent San Diego from playing host to the NFL title game at Qualcomm Stadium unless the city complied with a 2001 settlement aimed at expanding access for the disabled at the arena. Magistrate Judge Leo Papas toured Qualcomm Stadium on Thursday and found that the city had made a major effort to comply.
