Buhler to be sworn in Monday

Lawrence’s new state senator, Republican Mark Buhler, will be among two new senators sworn into office Monday as part of the Kansas Legislature’s first items of business.

Buhler and Bill Bunten, R-Topeka, will be sworn in shortly after the Senate is called to order at 2 p.m. Monday in the Senate chambers in the Statehouse. Justice Lawton Nuss, Salina, will preside over the ceremony.

Buhler was elected by the Douglas County Central Republican Committee to fill out the remaining two years of the four-year term of Sen. Sandy Praeger, a Lawrence Republican who was elected as State Insurance Commissioner.

Buhler represents the Senate’s 2nd District, which includes the city of Lawrence and the townships of Grant, Eudora, Wakarusa and part of Palmyra in Douglas County.

Bunten, will represent the 20th District, which covers Topeka, Auburn and Williamsport and parts of Dover and Mission townships. He is replacing Sen. Lynn Jenkins, who was elected to be State Treasurer.
