Arson suspected in overnight blaze

? Arson is suspected in an early morning fire that heavily damaged a vacant house, Jefferson County Undersheriff Jeff Herrig said.

The fire was reported by a nearby resident at 2:18 a.m. and Oskaloosa firefighters responded, Herrig said. The two-story house was at 1011 Union and was owned by Verna Pierson, Prairie Village, Herrig said.

Sheriff’s officers and the Kansas Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the blaze. Someone may have set some wood on fire after piling it along the side of the house, Herrig said.

No one was injured in the fire.
