‘American Pastoral’ to be shown at Kemper

Kansas City, Mo. — The three-part video installation “Robin Bernat: American Pastoral” will open with a free public reception from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

Bernat, who lives and works in Atlanta, created the piece after her boyfriend died on a camping trip in Argentina. She will speak at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the museum’s meeting room.

Bernat has exhibited her work at Solomon Projects, Atlanta; in the 2000 Whitney Biennial, New York; and other venues in the American Southeast.

The exhibit runs through April 6 at the museum, 4420 Warwick Blvd.

Boat show to include boats and reptiles

Kansas City, Mo. — Visitors to this year’s Kansas City Boat Show will encounter live anacondas, pythons, boa constrictors, vipers, turtles and lizards as the Reptile Adventures exhibition infiltrates the show.

Herpetologist Daniel Conner will give hands-on demonstrations and answer questions.

The 26th annual boat show will include hundreds of the newest boats in the Midwest on display and for sale.

The show is from 2 p.m.-10 p.m. Jan. 16-17, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Jan. 18, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 19. Tickets are $7 for adults; children 12 and under are free. Discount coupons for $1 off are available at all Hy-Vee stores.
