Aquahawks Golds: Chase Torgerson of the Lawrence Aquahawks won five gold medals, and teammate Jill Courtney captured four in the Mid-American League Championship-West swim meet Feb. 15-16 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. The Aquahawks' Molly Albrecht, Emma Reaney, Ashley Jackson and Lauren Pipkin were double winners. Single golds were garnered by Reed Grabill, Marcy Vickers, Kristi Rudman, Evan Hendon, Tony Libeer, Cameron Case, Caitlin Gallagher, Sarah Marlow and Katie Swank.

Gymnast Shines: Bryant Humphrey of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the rings, parallel bars and high bar in Class 6 of the Kansas City Winter Invitational. Scott Bregman won the floor exercise in Class 2. Other LGA competitors were Nick Lutz and Nathan Rommel. At the Lawrence Winter Cup, Bregman won the Class 2 all-around, and Humphrey was second in Class 6.

Silver Medalist: Jeryka Lobner of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy finished second on the bars in Level 8 competition at a meet in St. Louis. Other LGA Level 8 competitors were Jessica Williams, Ashley Sakumura, Amelia Firns-Hubert and Alex Hyler. At Level 10, LGA's Jennifer Pogge was fifth in all-around.

LJWC Medalists: Jacob Warren and Caleb D'Armond of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned a bronze and a silver medal at a tournament last weekend at Kansas City Turner. At a meet in Andale, LJWC's Andy Jones earned a gold medal and Dylan Housworth a bronze.

LGA Medalists: Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the Level 8 competition at the Winter Cup Classic. Ashley Sakumura, Jessica Williams and Amelia Firns-Hubert finished 1-2-3 in the all-around. LGA's Carol Fittell was fourth and Alex Hyler fifth. LGA also won Level 6 as Kelcy Bowers and Dianna Torgerson won all-around gold medals. Camille Fittell earned a silver. Also competing were Lexi Gonzales, Rachel Schaffer, Apryl Hedges, Kacey Clements and Jennifer Hughes. At Level 5, Ellen Hernley won a gold medal in the all-around. Also competing were Alyson Frydman and Mariah Anstaett. At Level 9, Jennifer Hornbaker, Mallory West and Kara Kellison went 1-2-3 in the all-around. At Level 10, Jennifer Pogge won the all-around.

Hayes Leads LJWC Girls: Misty Hayes led the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club girls at a meet in Wichita by earning a gold medal. Silvers went to Desiree Housworth, Amanda Morris and Brianna Hayes. Bronze medals were garnered by Carissa Nott, Deidre Housworth, Katrina Hayes and Dottie Housworth. Summer Wilks earned a fourth place.

Jones Shines in California: Abby Jones of Lawrence finished third in the all-around at the California International Invitational gymnastics meet last Saturday in San Diego. Teams from 16 states and three countries competed. Jones is affiliated with Diamond Gymnastics Academy in Overland Park.

JKWC Results: Brandon Goodwin of the Jayhawks Kids Wrestling Club earned a silver medal Saturday at the Kansas City Turner Invitational. Bronze medals went to Scott Deo and Alex Hardman, while Kenny Flanders and Caleb Gress posted fourth-place finishes.

Shamrock Shuffle: Early entry deadline is Wednesday for the Shamrock Shuffle 5K and Fun Walk scheduled March 8 on the levee behind Johnny's Tavern. Proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club after-school programs. Forms are available at KLWN, 3125 W. Sixth; Anthony Chiropractic, 3017 W. Sixth; and McDonald Chiropractic, 953 E. 23rd.

Baseball Deadline April 1: Sign-up deadline for Houk-Ice (ages 13-14) and Holcom (15-17) summer baseball leagues is April 1. Forms are available at the Holcom Rec Center. The league drafts will be April 5-6. If you're interested in coaching, call Brent Urban at 830-0626.

Developmental Fast-Pitch: Registration information for a developmental girls summer fast-pitch league is available at Holcom Rec Center, or call Bonnie Mills at 842-3323. Leagues are planned in the U-8, U-10 and U-12 age brackets.
