Tonganoxie health clinic plan advances

The prospect of a new family-practice medical clinic in Tonganoxie, owned and staffed by Lawrence Memorial Hospital, took one more step Wednesday toward becoming a reality.

LMH’s board of trustees voted to purchase a 1.08-acre site on Tonganoxie’s east side, near U.S. Highway 24-40 and Laming Road, for $75,000 from First State Bank & Trust.

The hospital will recruit a family-practice physician to staff the Tonganoxie clinic through an employment agreement with LMH.

The hospital has already conducted interviews with two physicians who are interested in serving Tonganoxie, and will talk to a third next week, said Gene Meyer, LMH president and CEO.

LMH officials plan for the clinic to open in August.
