Overdevelopment

To the editor:

Overdevelopment of South Iowa will dump traffic into the neighborhood. The extra traffic will cause traffic fatalities. Lives will be lost. But an alternate site for overdevelopment was zoned at Sixth and Wakarusa. Overdevelopment at this location will be able to take the lives of our Free State students by traffic fatalities also.

Overdevelopment is advocated like school consolidation. Why have 50 small businesses employing 300 people at $15 per hour, when you can have only one large one paying the same people minimum wage? Why have three grocery stores on Sixth Street when one can put the others out of business? The planning commission turned down additional overdevelopment across the street at Sixth and Wakarusa. Should additional overdevelopment on an existing site be treated any different?
